A History lesson
Hundreds of years ago, when the freezing Scandinavian nights dropped to sub-zero temperatures, the Danes developed a bed covering to keep them warm. Quite simply, it was a big bag of feathers, which they called a ‘dyne’. This crude, but effective duvet very quickly came to be regarded as a basic necessity in every home and in time the idea of being warm and cosy under a billowy bag of duck feathers spread to the UK, Germany, and many other countries. As technology advanced, alternative fillings were discovered and as a result when it comes to selecting the right duvet, the choices are endless.
Let’s talk about Tog…
Do you like to be snug and warm or prefer to be cool yet comfortable? Our ideal sleep temperature is 16-18 degrees and the TOG rating was developed to measure the warmth to weight ratio.
In the winter a 13.5 tog will keep you warm, in the summer a 4.5 tog will keep you cool yet comfortable.
Combination duvets allow you to attach two different tog duvets together for use in winter, then simply remove one for summer.

Size Matters
If your partner pinches the duvet or you often get entangled in the covers then you might need a bigger duvet. John Cotton recommends you buy the next size up from your bed so if your bed is a double, buy a king-size duvet.
